Welcome To My Idea Journal!!!

Posted by Mark McCray

Welcome to Mark McCray's wonderful, interactive, and environment saving idea journal!!!

This online journal is a collection of just some of the many ideas (and some would say crazy ideas!) that I have come up with over the past semester here at the always fabulous Bowling Green State University!!!

Most of the following entries are my own ideas, while others are things that I found that I thought were pretty cool and interesting.

Some of these ideas could make money (I think at least a few of them could at least!) while others (like the Text Message Heating Blanket) are probably destined for failure.

But the point of this idea journal is to weed out the bad from the good, and hopefully eventually find one that works!!!

Please remember to look around the website and view the videos as all of them are pretty relevant to the different posts they are included in!!!

Also, please feel free to comment on any of the posts by clicking on the "comments" link directly at the bottom of each thread. You can choose to remain anonymous if you wish (you do not have to have an account created!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Wonder Pizza!!!

Posted by Mark McCray

Wonder Pizza has to be one of the greatest inventions in recent history.

What is Wonder Pizza you ask?

Well, it is actually more than just meets the pie.

It is in fact a robot who will cook you a fresh baked pizza pie in just 90 seconds!!!

The Wonder Pizza machine works just as a traditional vending machine would. You put in your money (cash or credit!) and the robot inside the vending machine does the rest.

At first, a robotic arm slides into one of the prepackaged refridgerated pizza storage containers, it then tears off the protective film and slides it onto a conveyor belt.  This conveyor then rolls the pizza into the built in infrared oven (just like the toaster ovens used at Subway).  In 90 seconds when your pie is finished, the robotic arm once again dives into action as it slides the pizza onto a flat box and spits it out of the front of the machine.  From there it is up to you what you want to do with it-- either eat it greedily or save it for later.

Now, I don't see this machine ever replacing Pizza Hut, but I do feel there would be a strong market for it in colleges, corporate business buildings, and airports (among many, many others).

At first, most people would say "Why would I want to get pizza from a vending machine?" and that is understandable.  However, if you were unfortunate to live in one of the many places on campus without in-house dining options than you could probably see the merit of not having to bundle up like the kid from The Christmas Story and trek across Bowling Green's arctic tundra to get a bite to eat for lunch.

Only have 15 minutes for your lunch break and don't have time to wait for a pie to be delivered?  Then there is always Pizza Wonder!

In between transfers at a busy airport?  Why stand in line for boring and overpriced fast food when you can get a fresh and hot pizza baked just for you by a robot in 90 seconds!!!

I honestly think this is an amazing idea.

I just wish I had the capital to invest in a few machines to test the market here in the dorms that don't have food options.  I would have to believe there would be some strong interest from the students who live in these places.

I could make millions!!!

Don't Text And Drive, Kid!

Posted by Mark McCray

Text messaging has become a way of life for todays youth (and even adults!).  But serious problems can arise from too much texting.

One of the biggest problems takes place behind the wheel of a car.  When a child gets a license to drive a car, they are often given a cell phone to go along with that car so they can keep in touch with their nervous parents.  Instead of giving peace of mind, this cell phone can become a deadly distraction.

All too often kids are getting in accidents on the roadway because they are texting and driving.  In fact, nearly 50% of teenagers have admitted to texting while driving!

The device that I would design could be easily incorporated into a teenagers car and would effectively render the device useless at getting anything but phone calls.  All texting features of the drivers cellphone would be turned off.

If I could find a way to get the device to only block the phone of the driver from texting, that could be a good feature to implement as well.

I would call it the "Text You Later" device or in the more common "text message shorthand, the"Txt U LTR" device

Why Didn't I Think Of That? Part 1

Posted by Mark McCray

Ever get sick of your ice cubes always melting in your drink because they are square?  Well, so was this Japanese engineer/entrepreneur, Nobuaki Kondou and his father.

So he came up with a way to make ice cubes, well, ice balls.

According to the website, adviceINice.com:
The ice ball is the first major change in packaged ice technology for years. And it not only has novelty value but it is functional, as well. Traditional cube ice will water down a fine scotch whiskey or premium liquor very quickly, but the crystal clear ice ball overcomes that problem

Liquor is poured over the ice ball and settles in the bottom of the glass. As the liquor is sipped, it passes around the ice ball, cooling on the way to the mouth.

The small surface of the ice ball that is in contact with the liquor combined with the especially hard ice itself, means it melts much slower than regular ice cubes.
I thought this was a pretty good idea.  Until I learned about the best part of the ice ball business.  By simply changing the molds on the machine that is used to make the balls, the company can put logos or different designs on the balls depending on their clients needs.

This invention is pefect for restaurants, hotels, casinos, and other large entertainment venues who love "brand power".

As adviceINice goes onto say:
In addition, the ice ball can be produced in different styles – baseball, basketball, soccer ball etc and can also be produced with a corporate logo firmly embossed on the surface which makes it attractive to hotel chains, clubs, sports bars and so on.

The idea for the ice ball originated in Japan where premium drinks at hotels and upscale bars are extremely expensive. The ice ball addresses the problem of maintaining the integrity of fine liquors and enables customers to savor the taste of their favorite brands.
Wow.  A cool looking product that keeps your fine liquor from becoming watered down (and it comes with a pretty company logo!!!)  Sign me up!!!

Train Billboards

Posted by Mark McCray

Think about the last time you were stuck at a train crossing.  It may have been awhile since it has happend, but I am sure it wasn't the first time.

Do you remember how bored you were?  Putting the car in park, you realize there is nothing else to do but either count the number of cars or hope for an interesting piece of graffiti to roll by.

Well, Not anymore.

My idea to advertise on train cars would eliminate your boredem and replace it with glorious images of Snicker's bars, Big Mac's, Diet Coke's, and ice-cold Bud Light's!

However, the idea of advertising on the trains is not really the revolutionary idea here.  The way it would be done is.

The billboard that would hold the advertisements would be coated with a special spray that stops graffitti in its tracks.

This spray would help keep the billboard free of ugly or offensive graffitti, and would allow rail yard workers an easy way to clean them if they were "tagged".

The train could then easily be fitted with sockets that the billboard attach to.  This allows the advertisements to be rotated quickly while at different rail yards.

Now, imagine that you are on your way to an important day at work when you are stopped by a train.  As the gates come down, you dreadfully put your car in park and prepare to wait.  You start to think how hungry you are and how badly you need to eat breakfast when the first train car with a billboard affixed to it's side comes screeching by.  It is a picture of a McMuffin.

Your stomach starts to growl as the next billboard comes hurtling past your car.  This one is a delicious picture of a hashbrown.

Your stomach growls even louder as the last billboard flies past you and the gates rise.  You guessed it.  It's a McCafe Extra Special Double Vanilla Bean Latte.

Wow, you think as the delicious vanilla treat whizzes by.

You put your foot on the brake and shift your car into drive.

You quickly turn on your turn signal as the Golden Arches come into view.  You know exactly what you are having for breakfast today.

Advertising Supported Taxi Fares

Posted by Mark McCray

This is basically a free taxi cab service that forces the person(s) riding in the cab to watch advertisements of different companies.

The taxi would have static advertisements on the outside of the car, as well as on the inside. The inside of the car would also feature a flat panel television playing constant loops of either a single company or numerous companies who are sponsoring the rides.

I think that this is already being done in some parts of the country and abroad, but I don't think that any of them offer free rides.  Only reduced fares.

BG Apartment Finder

Posted by Mark McCray

Finding a place to live in Bowling Green is a flat out hassle.

Virtually no landlord offers their complete listings online.  And if they do, they are only helpful in finding out the address to the property.

My idea is to create a website that can become a one-stop shop for all aparment hunters in Bowling Green.
I can envision the website becoming a sort of online social-network/Wiki, where students (and BG city residents) can go to either praise or criticize their rental property and their landlords.  Current tenants could upload pictures, give a summary of their experiences in the property and with their landlord, and also give critical details to others who are looking to rent property in BG.

Landlords in this city are famous for getting away with ripping off students.  This would allow renters to make informed decisions when it comes time to look for a place to live off campus.

Have you ever just wanted to call someone and get straight to their voicemail?  Maybe you made a huge mistake and you want to apologize-- just without actually talking to someone.

Well, Slydial is here to help!!!

Slydial is a service (and an iPhone app now!) that allows you to skip that embarrasing phone conversation but will still allow you to make amends!!!

What a great idea. I personally will be Slydialing a lot now that I have found out about such an awesome idea!!!

That is until people start catching on!!!

Text Message Heating Blanket

Posted by Mark McCray

Have you ever been out to a restaurant on a cold night?  One of those nights that all you want to do is crawl into your warm bed the minute you get home.

Well, the text message enabled electric blanket would preheat your bed to your desired temperature on demand!!!

Using a small transmitter, the user would send a text message to the blanket telling it what setting to begin heating your bed on.

As soon as you get home, you can jump in your bed and be cozy instantly!!!

This falls under one of those, "Uh, do I really need this?" kind of products.

But of course you need it!!! You live in Bowling Green, Ohio!

What Is Congress Doing?

Posted by Mark McCray

I would like to think that I am fairly up-to-date with the latest happenings in our country, but sometimes I feel like I could know more.

That is why I feel there needs to be some sort of website that actually tells the average citizen what it is that Congress is doing.  In a fun and extremely easy to understand way.

Sure, there are many websites on the internet that offer all of the latest happening's in Congress as far as legislature, but reading them is like trying to figure out a Sudoku puzzle (which I simply can't do).

Someone needs to come up with a way to present the information in an easily digestable form.  It is important that every citizen knows what our government is up to, and that is why this website would benefit all.

It could also profit from advertising!!!

Pizza By The Slice

Posted by Mark McCray

I can not even tell you how many times I have wanted pizza, but didn't want to spend the money on buying a whole one.

Sometimes you only want a piece or two for dinner or lunch, but this is nearly impossible in Bowling Green.

Bowling Green offers one of the most vast array of pizza options in Northwest Ohio, but for some reason it is impossible to get a single slice of pizza in this city.

With the bar scene the way it is in this town, I do not understand what would be keeping some of the pizza places from selling pizza by the slice.  Everyone I ever bring this idea up to says, "Hmm.  That really is weird."

Other schools that I have visited like Ohio State and Ohio both have businesses that offer pizza by the slice and from what I have witnessed these places are often the busiest food places in the city.

Why BG doesn't have one is beyond me.

Please click here to view my "other" Blog!!!!!!!

It's called The Bronx Stop, and it's a Blog covering the New York Yankees (my apologies if you are not a big fan, as I know most people around these parts aren't).

This has been my entrepreneurial "project" for just a little over a year now and is a pretty fun hobby.

I earn around $100.00 a month from the text link advertising that I run in the right hand side bar on the home page.
