Ever get sick of your ice cubes always melting in your drink because they are square? Well, so was this Japanese engineer/entrepreneur, Nobuaki Kondou and his father.
So he came up with a way to make ice cubes, well, ice balls.
According to the website, adviceINice.com:
The ice ball is the first major change in packaged ice technology for years. And it not only has novelty value but it is functional, as well. Traditional cube ice will water down a fine scotch whiskey or premium liquor very quickly, but the crystal clear ice ball overcomes that problemI thought this was a pretty good idea. Until I learned about the best part of the ice ball business. By simply changing the molds on the machine that is used to make the balls, the company can put logos or different designs on the balls depending on their clients needs.
Liquor is poured over the ice ball and settles in the bottom of the glass. As the liquor is sipped, it passes around the ice ball, cooling on the way to the mouth.
The small surface of the ice ball that is in contact with the liquor combined with the especially hard ice itself, means it melts much slower than regular ice cubes.
This invention is pefect for restaurants, hotels, casinos, and other large entertainment venues who love "brand power".
As adviceINice goes onto say:
In addition, the ice ball can be produced in different styles – baseball, basketball, soccer ball etc and can also be produced with a corporate logo firmly embossed on the surface which makes it attractive to hotel chains, clubs, sports bars and so on.
The idea for the ice ball originated in Japan where premium drinks at hotels and upscale bars are extremely expensive. The ice ball addresses the problem of maintaining the integrity of fine liquors and enables customers to savor the taste of their favorite brands.
Wow. A cool looking product that keeps your fine liquor from becoming watered down (and it comes with a pretty company logo!!!) Sign me up!!!
